1. Hot Glue Gun mold
These are the cheapest one, though not very durable. These works best for the small articles. For making this one just take your article ,drop generous amount of hot glue on it making sure it is fully covered and let the glue cool down. Take the article out of glue mold and done. You have an easy and cost effective mold ready to replicate your favorite objects. You can find the instructions using the link http://www.instructables.com/id/Fast-hot-glue-mold-for-small-things/
2. Silicon mold
These ones are very easy to make. Little messy but reusable and durable. To make silicon mold all you need is clear 100% silicon caulking and cornstarch. usually I start with 2 part Silicon and 1 part cornstarch and then add cornstarch as needed. Mix both and make a dough. now press the article you want to make mold of into it and leave for 30 min. Take out the article and you have quick and easy mold ready to use. I have used this to make clay and plaster objects successfully. For reference you can watch the you tube video using the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aElFs2XsOHo There are so many videos on you tube but I like this one the best.
3. Styrofoam molds
Surprised to hear that Styrofoam can be used to make mold? I found these useful when I don't have any article to make mold of. I wanted to make a writing piece for the Mural I was making and being outside India could not find any Hindi mantra molds. So here come the saying in use "Necessity is mother of invention" and I came up with the Styrofoam mold idea. To make the mold follow these easy steps
1. Take a pic of Mantra written on paper.( you can use any pic)
3. Print it out
4. Trace the pic on the Styrofoam( you can use any disposable Styrofoam plate with flat surface)
5. If you are good in writing in reverse then you can skip the first 3 steps and write directly on the Styrofoam.
6. Take air-dry clay and roll it out to required thickness and of the size little bigger than your traced image
7. Press it on the traced image nicely so that clay goes in all the traced impressions and done, your 3D custom writing mural is ready.
8. Let it dry and use once completely dry. Styrofoam molds are useful for soft clay and not very durable for POP or concrete. But now you have a custom made article ready and you can use any of the above 2 methods to make more durable molds.
I hope you enjoyed reading this information. Happy crafting.
